For those of you interested in visiting Northern Ireland, it has a well developed gay scene in Belfast and there is also a small scene in Northern Ireland's second city, [London] Derry, close to the border of Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.
Belfast has five gay venues, three bars and a couple of Nite clubs including the best known of these, 'The Kremlin' which backs onto The Union Street Bar. Belfast also has a gay men's sauna and numerous gay and lesbian groups. Derry has a couple of gay venues and a drop in centre. We will be adding listings for [London] Derry in the future. It is well worth visiting other parts of Northern Ireland too such as the 'Giant's Causway' a famous geological phenomenon on the northern coast and the beautiful countryside. There are, not unlike many cities throughout the world, parts of Belfast, [London] Derry and other Northern Irish towns, that are regarded as 'no-go' areas. We suggest you ask the local tourist office or the local gay and lesbian's you meet who, on the whole, will show any Irish and foreigner alike a sincere welcome.
Visitors may wonder about the name of Northern Ireland's second city which is sometimes referred to as Londonderry and to others as Derry. Most people seem to just call it Derry for short. Generally we're likely to do the same here in our reviews.
